Why a free treatment strike?
To assign a project, producers, clients and advertising agencies have established a formula of CONTEST based on the presentation of TREATMENTS: a document that reflects the creative development of each director and that in theory serves to value our creative vision against the possible ways of approaching the script and the production of an advertisement.
At least 3 production companies participate in each contest, with one director each. As directors, when a contest arrives we are forced to WORK FOR FREE to win a project, dedicating ourselves to develop the TREATMENT of the project for several days and nights, with absolute involvement, including weekends and/or holidays.
Anything goes for winning a project.
But what it costs is worth money.
That is, in each contest 3 or more TREATMENTS ARE NOT PAID are generated. We conclude that the TREATMENT has become a document that IS REQUESTED BECAUSE IT IS FREE, and that it is not always decisive when selecting the director, since this choice is also made based on other factors (director/producer, producer-client relationship, producer-agency relationship, budget, agreements etc…)
The reality is that only one of these treatments will be chosen.
Only one Director will be hired to work on this project.
From ADDP we demand that our creative contribution and the time dedicated in the elaboration of the treatment recover the value that corresponds to it. The PITCH, from now on, must be always PAID.
